Summary of working hours for minors
All minors over 6 months of age can be employed between the hours of 5:00 a.m. & 10:00 p.m. (unless a waiver or extension is granted). A minor may work until 12:30 a.m. on a night preceding non-school days. A "turnaround" time of 12 hours must lapse between the minor’s time of dismissal and time of call on the following day.

*a meal period can be for a minimum of 1/2 hour & extends the minor’s day by a maximum of 1/2 hour. A minor must not go longer than 6 hours without a meal period.


Summary of working hours for babies
Babies may work between 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. or 2:30-4:30 p.m. (unless special permission is granted by parent). A baby cannot be exposed to a light greater than 100 foot candlelight intensity for more than 30 seconds at a time. A separate studio teacher must be provided for babies when school age children are working with babies between 15 days & 6 months.

All minors must obtain a work permit from their local DLSE office. Permit is free of charge & is valid for 6 months.
